Telecom operators have warned the public to get ready for regular outages of ‘phone calls across the country, just like electricity load shedding. The development emerged from the recent meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, during which the representatives of the telecom companies raised severe concerns about the tax hike.
Telecom companies have met in Islamabad to discuss the federal government’s increased taxes on fibre optic cables. Telcos claim that the increase in taxes will put an additional burden on the telecom industry and lead to higher operating costs and job losses.
Telecom companies have urged a parliamentary committee to reduce the taxes on fibre optic cable. The committee has asked the telecom companies to forward their suggestion to the government. In a meeting, telcos said Pakistan would lose the global connectivity race if it didn’t reduce taxes on cable.
